Have you ever thought what life would be like 30 years from now? There will be plenty of changes absolutely bought by technology. One of that is lab-grown meat. Who wouldn’t want that? There will be less greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner and safer food, and a sustainable future for everyone. And it is starting now.

Singapore, a first-world country, has just become the first country to approve the sale of lab-grown meat. The lab-grown meat is chicken meat by U.S. startup, Eat Just, Inc. The cultured-chicken will be used for chicken nuggets production.

Eat Just is a San Francisco-based food manufacturing company. They are known for plant-based alternative foods and cultured meat. They were first known for Beyond Eggs, a plant-based egg alternative in making baked goods.

This technological advancement is at an early stage and therefore requires high production costs. The chicken nugget was initially reported to cost 50 USD each. Eat Just, Inc. said that the taste of the meat is similar to that of a traditionally grown chicken.

Also, the meat has health benefits too.

More food processing firms are also working on towards the advancement of this new meat substitute market. Aside from chicken, they are working on lab-grown beef, and fish.

From farm to lab?

The global food security and sustainability has been a concern since the turn of the century.

Knowing that the global population is steadily growing, consumption of animal-based meat isn’t going to cut it. Furthermore , more lands are converted into residential and industrial areas. With fewer lands for livestock raising, lab-grown meat is starting to become a more viable option.

According to Fortune Business Insight, USD 8.15 billion is the value of the global market for meat alternative by 2026.

The future is now!
